Citizen participation, governance and accountability

Justice and equality for the vulnerable.

To support vulnerable communities in their quest to access social services and decide how their future should be like, Trinity Project supports these organizations to participate in all public civic processes that affect them and happen in their communities. The organization supports and strengthens communities  to  demand  realization of their rights by holding  duty bearers  from community level to government level  to  ensure that their views , voices and concerns are heard, hold them to account and ensure transparency  in the way public resources (public resource tracking)  are handled by authorities. This is done through the following strategies

Local governance and democracy:

Trinity Project addresses issues relating to local governance through engagements with duty bearers at community level, district and provincial levels and through its national strategic partners.  We further engage in budget analysis and resource tracking for better service delivery. We further invest in Social Movement building by working together with others, and creating spaces and platforms for collaboration to occur. A social movement is understood as the rallying of actors around a common goal, and the space to engage in the sharing of experience in different sectors or areas.  We further engage in monitoring and accountability through its membership to the various platforms it interacts with government officials and elected representatives, and is playing a critical role in strengthening the capacity of civil society/ community based organizations in monitoring budget processes/ enhancing accountability between duty bearers and rights holders, as well as highlighting the importance of moving beyond promoting gender budgeting to expenditure tracking

Policy Works and advocacy:

policy work referred here means advocacy for policy formation where policy gaps are seen, policy reform where the policies are not up to the mark and policy implementation where right policy execution is absent. Current advocacy is focused on around specific policies including the Access to Documentation Laws like the Birth and Death Registration, National Registration Act, Child Protection Act. At a local level, Trinity Project strengthens communities to engage in policy advocacy work and demanding accountability for local funds and programmes. This work saw an improvement in citizen’s access to services that include health, and access to documentation especially in Bubi district. This is in line with the recent Decentralization and Devolution Policy recently adopted by the Government of Zimbabwe
